FAQs

  • The New York Project is a joint strategy of Redeemer Churches & Ministries and Redeemer City to City, both founded by Tim Keller. The gospel movement that has been on the rise in NY over the past 25 years has been due to God’s work through Redeemer, City to City, and many other churches of many denominations. Redeemer Churches & Ministries (formerly Redeemer Presbyterian Church) was planted in 1989 by Tim and Kathy Keller in Manhattan and grew to 5,000 congregants and 3 anchor churches. In 2000, Redeemer gave birth to City to City to help train pastors from all over the world to start churches of various denominations. Tim Keller pivoted out of the pulpit in 2016 to dedicate more time to training pastors and planters through City to City.

City to City NYC is an affiliate of Redeemer City to City. Since 2000, Redeemer City to City has helped start 838 churches in over 140 cities across the globe. Though City to City is invested in cities all over the world, we have a unique appreciation for New York City because of its outsized influence as a global city.

  • Movement work is highly collaborative and it takes many organizations on the ground to reach and serve New York. We are honored to work with 20+ different denominations and networks such as New City, Orchard Group, Stadia, Exponential, National Latino Evangelical Coalition and many more.

  • The New York Project is a 10-year strategy divided in 3 phases.

    Phase 1: January 2016 - June 2020
    Phase 2: July 2020 - June 2023
    Phase 3: July 2023 - June 2026

  • Researchers have seen the Body of Christ in center-city Manhattan increase from less than 1% in 1989 to 5% in 2016 and 8% in 2019. If a critical mass—around 15%—of New Yorkers are not only part of a gospel-centered church, but express gospel values—mercy, friendship, justice, hope—in the city, we believe it might reach a “tipping point” in cultural renewal.

  • Thank you for your desire to partner with us! Please email Mai Hariu-Powell at mai@redeemercitytocity.com to inquire how you or your foundation can become a partner.

  • Rise was a campaign at Redeemer Churches & Ministries in 2016 to raise financial support for the New York Project. Through the sacrificial commitment to Rise, the Redeemer congregations pledged a historic $32.5M toward Phase 1 of the New York Project! We are all very grateful for the 2,600+ individuals who committed to Rise!

An additional $46M was raised outside of Redeemer from a community of sacrificial partners across the country.

  • HUB is a weekend to financially support City to City’s global work outside of the New York Project. If you are interested in learning about the global work of City to City, please visit their website and reach out to Susan Thorson.

In previous years, partners from across the country joined us in NYC for Momentum Weekend which was a weekend to benefit the New York Project.

  • For pastors and ministry leaders who are interested to join us in this work, please visit the City to City NYC page to learn about our training programs and our team of experts.
